Welcome. I'm a dual Ph.D. student in cognitive science and computational linguistics at Indiana University. I live in Bloomington Indiana with the love of my life and our cats Aubergine and Antigone. My current computer overlord is Semiramis (2.8GHz MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5), though Elsamelys and Xenobia are still around.

Persona
Before coming to Bloomington, I got a BA in linguistics with a focus in anthropology from Reed College; studied Japanese and computer science (programming languages and artificial intelligence) at Portland State; and finished my MSE in computer science (computational linguistics) at Johns Hopkins. When I lived in Portland, I also spent much time at Free Geek as a build instructor, sysadmin, and member of the board of directors; and worked at the CAT doing system administration.
These days I can be found hanging around cognitive lunch, CL lunch, PL wonks, Beer & Algorithms, and the advanced algorithms reading group. What free time I have is spent reading, roleplaying, videogaming, swing dancing, enjoying fine food & drink (japanese, tibetan, thai, vietnamese, indian, persian, lebanese, turkish; coffees, teas, whisky, wine), and listening to music ranging from EBM, trance, futurepop, and rhythmic noise to indie, folk, riot grrrl, mandopop, K-pop, and much else.
